Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology

The birth of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur (MPUAT) was a result of bifurcation of the Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner in 1999. The University started functioning in full swing with effect from December 1, 1999. The bifurcation was needed because of a wide variety of physiographic variation including crops, cropping pattern, climate, soil parameters, etc. in the largest state of the country. 

The jurisdiction of the university include constituent colleges, Agricultural Research Stations (ARSs), Agricultural Research Sub Stations (ARSSs), Livestock Research Station (LRS), Dryland Farming Research Station (DFRS),  and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) spread over 7 districts of the south and south eastern part of the state of Rajasthan. These districts are Udaipur, Rajsamand, Dungarpur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Pratapgarh.

Objectives of MPUAT

  • Imparting teaching and training in different branches of agriculture and allied fields particularly Horticulture, Fisheries, Dairy, Forestry, Engineering, Community and Applied Sciences etc.
  • The advancement of learning and conducting research, seeking solutions to emerging problems in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Community and Applied Sciences, Dairy and Food Science and other allied sciences.
  • Transfer of technology to farmers and farming community and government and non government agricultural organizations through various extension programmes especially for the rural people of the state of Rajasthan.
  • Providing diverse technical services and consultancy in industries allied to agriculture to optimize resource utilization and for proper harnessing of technologies generated in the laboratories and fields.
  • Developing linkages nationally and internationally for education, research and extension education.

Admission in MPUAT

  • Admission to B.Sc. Ag. and M.Sc. (Ag.) programme is done through an entrace examination (JET and Pre P.G. Test) for which application are to be submitted whenever requisitioned through a notification in news papers, circulars and displays on the notice boards. Admission to B.Sc. (Ag.) programme are also done on merit and on self financing basis as notified by the university.
  • Candidates seeking admission to B. Tech. (D.T.) , B. Tech. (F.T.) & B.Tech (Bio Technology) shall have to appear in the Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test (RPETAP) conducted by Technical Board, Govt. of Rajasthan. Under ICAR quota Candidates are not required to appear in the RPETAP.
  • Admission in B.Tech programme is made as per the State government policy through a common entrance examination known as State Level Pre Engineering Test (RPETEAP) which is applicable for admission in other engineering colleges of the State also. The seats are also reserved for AIEEE students from other states. The admission on 8 seats in the Agricultural Engineering discipline is made by ICAR through All India Joint Entrance Test. The M.Tech admission is made on the basis of All India GATE score.  The admissions to Ph.D. programmes are made on the basis of merit/interview.  The academic session of studies is from July to June.
Entrance Test for Admission to Under Graduate Programme
  • The candidates, other than nominees of ICAR, will have to appear in State Level Pre-Engineering Test conducted by the Centralized Admission Committee, as notified by the Govt. of Rajasthan for admission to Engineering Colleges in Rajasthan.
  • Admission form for State Level Pre-Engineering Test can be obtained from the Coordinator of test. It can also be obtained from other colleges whenever notified in news papers.
  • The State Level Co-ordinator will also make admissions on seats reserved for NEET.

Research in MPUAT

The university has a full fledged Directorate of Research with comprehensive infrastructure for research both at headquarters and at different research stations. A number of research projects are in progress where in postgraduate students do participate by taking up their research problems under the main project with a specific objective(s). Many a times, the postgraduate students get financial help also in the form of research fellowship as provided in the project.
